As always . . .
For the last couple of weeks, I have been feeling very sorry for my poor husband.
I have always considered myself a certain kind of person, and I think, as I consider myself, that I purposely fly over the glaring faults in my character. That's why I have been avoiding the word obsession to describe my recent behavior. But I have decided to come clean. Obsession is the correct word, no matter how much I dislike it.
Almost a week ago, I finished the third draft of my book. It took me about two weeks to extensively edit and revise 311 pages of story. As you can imagine, during that time, no laundry got done, no grocery shopping or cleaning, not even much conversation. Poor Steve! I hope to sell a billion copies of this book and make it worth it to him (not that he cares; we've already decided we don't want to live in a castle). I hope someday I can look back on this period of my life and call it "working," rather than obsessive.
So with the draft done, it is finally ready to be seen by eyes other than mine. I have emailed my precious book to five close friends (well, four close friends and one close brother). That was five days ago. I have been antsy all week, waiting to find out what people are thinking. It is amazingly vulnerable, to leave something that I've spent so much time and energy on in the hands of other people. I will have to get over that if I ever want to publish it.
If you're one of those friends (or my brother), I am so excited and scared to find out what you think. If you're not one of those, I promise you'll get to read it eventually . . . when it comes out in hard cover . . . for $15.95. (Just kidding, I have no idea how much it would cost.)
In the meantime, I need to get working on another book, something to get my mind off the waiting. But I seem to have lost all my motivation to actually write. I need another story idea . . . Maybe I just need to find another soundtrack. Most of this book was written to the beautiful tones of Anthony Warlow and Jekyll and Hyde. Any suggestions for good, obsessive music?
